Franklin Fountain, Created by 2 Delaware County Brothers, Celebrates 20th Anniversary
Ryan and Eric Berley grew up in their Media-area home with a dining room decorated like a historical ice cream parlor.
They carried that motif into adult life, with their successful business, Franklin Fountain in Old City Philadelphia.
Now the old-fashioned ice cream parlor is celebrating its 20th anniversary, writes Leslie Krowchenko for the Daily Times.
The parlor provides old-fashioned desserts and homemade, hand-dipped ice cream. Vintage drinks are created and dispensed from a 1900s bronze and onyx marble fountain.
For the anniversary on Sept. 28, there will be daylong festivities, including a banana split-eating contest, ice cream stacking competition, music and kid’s crafts and games.
Franklin Fountain is located in an 1898 building with tin walls and ceilings, and an original porcelain mosaic tile floor.
Ryan, an antique trader now living in Lansdowne, is a fan of all things vintage and Eric enjoys developing turn-of-the-last-century tastes.
“Our goal is the preservation of something that has been lost,” said Eric, who lives in Swarthmore. “Our control of ingredients and the tastes and aromas we develop help us to distinguish ourselves.”
