US Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff speaks with Democratic volunteers in Norristown amid a tight Presidential Race in Pennsylvania.

Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff met with Norristown Democrats, reports Justin Heinze for the Patch.

The first Presidential Debate between VP Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump took place Tuesday night in Philadelphia. Emhoff met with the Montgomery County Democratic Committee On Sunday. The trip was part of the Harris-Walz Weekend of Action.

Prominent local Democrats were in attendance including Congresswomen Mary Gay Scanlon and Glenside’s Madeleine Dean.

“We have 58 days,” said Dean. “I don’t want to sugarcoat it. This is a tight election.”

The Weekend of Action was a canvassing plan organized after news that Republicans have had more success registering voters in Pennsylvania than Democrats. It’s a close race in Pennsylvania as in elections passed. Trump narrowly won PA in 2016, and Biden narrowly won in 2020.

Emhoff used the event to encourage volunteers to canvas neighborhoods and hit the phones.

“You really have a chance to determine your own future and the future of the rest of the country and the world because right here,” Emhoff told volunteers.

The Norristown event took place along with nearly 500 events held throughout Pennsylvania by the Harris-Walz Weekend of Action, according to campaign officials.
