A new era of play, inclusion, and joy has officially begun at The Arc of Chester County.

On Thursday, September 19, 2024, the organization dedicated a new, fully inclusive playground, a space designed for children of all abilities to play, grow, and connect.

This joyful event served as a highlight of The Arc’s 70th Anniversary Campaign and a testament to the organization’s seven decades of commitment to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their families.

“We have accomplished so much together, and today is a day to celebrate not just this beautiful playground, but the amazing progress we have made over seven decades,” said Lisa Albany, President of The Arc of Chester County’s Board. “This playground represents everything The Arc of Chester County stands for —community, inclusion, and the belief that everyone deserves equal opportunity and a place to belong.”

The success of The Arc’s 70th Anniversary Campaign, which raised an extraordinary $1,659,855 over the past three years, has allowed the organization to invest in significant upgrades to its facilities. From a brand-new roof and technology hub to state-of-the-art bathrooms, technology and workspaces to upgraded security, this dedicated capital fundraising effort has transformed The Arc’s 23-year-old building located in West Chester.

A crown jewel of these improvements is the new inclusive playground, a heartwarming symbol of the community’s unwavering support for children of all abilities.

It was made possible by the incredible generosity of donors including the Parsons and Keenan families, whose contributions helped to raise a total of $242,000 for the playground.

This play space is now more than just a structure, it’s a place of fun, important development and inclusivity.

During Thursday’s dedication, Leo and Maryanne Parsons, who have been supporters for nearly three decades, joined in the celebration.

“As long-time partners and friends, we’ve seen firsthand the life-changing work The Arc of Chester County does for individuals and families in our community. We are thrilled to have played a part in this successful playground effort knowing it will bring joy to children for generations to come,” said Mr. Parsons, president of CTDI.

The ceremony concluded with a ribbon-cutting at the entrance to the playground, marking the official opening of this extraordinary space—a place where every child can experience the joy of play.

“This beautiful playground is an example of what can be achieved when a community comes together with passion, dedication, and a shared vision of inclusion,” expressed Arc CEO, Jeanne Meikrantz. “We are incredibly grateful to the many individuals and community partners that helped to fund it and build it.”

The mission of The Arc of Chester County is to advocate, educate, and provide services that empower individuals with disabilities and their families to enhance the quality of their lives.

The Arc’s programs and services prepare individuals with the skills and support they need for living in the community and speaking up for their rights.

Today, The Arc serves nearly 5,275 children and adults with disabilities and their families each year through the provision of a lifetime of services beginning at birth and extending throughout a person’s life.
