Bryn Mawr College Latest to Join SEPTA’s Free Ride Program
Students at Bryn Mawr College will be able to take up to 240 rides a month starting this fall with any SEPTA service, and it won’t cost them a dime, thanks to SEPTA’s UPass ride program, writes Ariana Pereez-Castells for The Philadelphia Inquirer.
Bryn Mawr is the latest college to join SEPTA’s Key Advantage UPass program launched last year.
Institutions receive 80 percent discounts when they purchase the program for their students. Normally a monthly all-access SEPTA Key card would cost a student $204.
“As our college believes in access and equity, we are thrilled to partner with SEPTA to provide equal opportunity for our students to connect with the city, learn, grow, and enhance their academic and co-curricular pursuits,” said Karlene Burrell-McRae, the dean of the undergraduate college at Bryn Mawr College.
The UPass program will be available from September through December, then from February through May to more than 1,500 full-time students at Bryn Mawr.
The program was launched last year with Swarthmore College and is available to colleges and universities in the region.
The college program and a companion program offered to businesses, is seen as a way for SEPTA to rebuild ridership following the pandemic.
