The Schuylkill River Trail’s Easy Ride Through Beautiful Montco

The Schuylkill River Trail rides through the heart of Montgomery County and is one of many bike paths in the Philadelphia area.

The Greater Philadelphia area is home to some of the best bike trails for beginners and experts alike, writes Henry Savage for The Philadelphia Inquirer. Among them is the Schuylkill River Trail (SRT), which cuts right through Montgomery County.

The Schuylkill River Trail runs along the Schuylkill River. Much of it is built over the old Philadelphia Railroad line, now covered in dirt.

The trail extends 75 miles from Philadelphia into Pottstown. Future plans will extend the trail to 120 miles.

The level trail is perfect for beginners. It has several stops along the way for riders to rest or grab a bite. Stops include East Falls, Manayunk, Roxborough, Conshohocken, and Norristown.

The SRT spans a wide territory, starting out in urban Philadelphia, through the suburbs, and into more rural land. Riders can enjoy scenic views of the water, canals, new developments, and buildings over 100 years old.
