Harleysville’s Philadelphia Folk Festival is Back and Better Than Ever with John Oates
After a one year hiatus, the Philadelphia Folk Festival in Harleysville is back with headliners John Oates and Gangstagrass, writes Henry Savage for The Philadelphia Inquirer.
Last year, the Philadelphia Folk Society suspended its annual gathering following the passing of their cofounder Gene Shay and financial restructuring after the pandemic. Now, the 61st Folk Festival returns on Aug. 16-18, billed A New Legacy Begins.
One of the country’s oldest outdoor music events, the Folk Festival showcases a variety of folk music both old and new. This year, it will host more than 50 musical acts across seven stages.
Gangstagrass, a musical group that blends bluegrass with hip hop, headlines on Friday night. North Penn High School alum and former half of the Hall and Oates duo, John Oates will headline on Saturday.
The festival also holds yoga classes, workshops and celtic celebrations throughout the weekend and is welcome to all ages. The event’s host, Old Pool Farm, welcomes attendees to camp on the grounds starting on Aug. 15.
