Harris Chooses Philadelphia for First Campaign Rally with Running Mate Raising Speculation About Shapiro as Her VP Pick
Vice President Kamala Harris will arrive in Philadelphia on Tuesday for her first campaign rally with her running mate, which has raised speculation about Gov. Josh Shapiro, who is on top of her short list of potential vice presidential picks, write Hans Nichols and Mike D’Onofrio for AXIOS.
The campaign rally in Philadelphia will open a tour of seven battleground states, which will also include stops in Wisconsin, Michigan, and North Carolina.
According to people familiar with the matter, Harris’ campaign has been urging Wall Street donors to make their contributions as soon as possible, citing a financial rule that prohibits contributions to tickets that feature a sitting governor.
This has led some donors to conclude that Harris’ pick for her running mate will be a governor and not a senator. If this interpretation of campaign signals is correct, then the choice of potential vice presidential picks comes down to Shapiro, Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear, and Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz.
Meanwhile, Harris’ campaign spokesperson said that “any reporting on developments or updates in Vice President Harris’ running mate search are premature and speculative.”
