For more than 85 years, Independence Blue Cross has been deeply committed to partnering with organizations helping to improve the health and well-being of people throughout the Philadelphia region. The company’s longstanding relationship with Share Food Program demonstrates how partnerships between nonprofits and programs, like the IBX Blue Crew, can achieve the greatest possible impact on the health of communities.

Share is the leading hunger relief organization in the Greater Philadelphia region and one of the largest independent food banks in the nation — distributing millions of pounds of nutritious food to nearly 400 partner pantries and community-based organizations each month. This ensures that those facing food insecurity have access to healthy, nourishing meals. Share also offers free home deliveries for seniors and stocks community fridges that are available 24/7.

The IBX Blue Crew supports Share’s efforts by:

  • packing wholesome senior food boxes, which feed more than 7,000 seniors each month
  • sorting produce for local cupboards
  • loading cars for food deliveries
  • working at Share’s Nice Roots Farm, an urban agriculture project and educational space for the community.

A steady team of IBX volunteers visit Share’s facility every month to help further the organization’s reach.

“IBX’s relationship with the Share Food Program is a shining example of the Blue Crew in action,” said Stephen P. Fera, Executive Vice President of Public Affairs and President of Government Markets at Independence Blue Cross. “We are the hometown team, and our associates are making a tremendous impact in the communities where we live and work year-round. We are proud to support organizations, like Share Food Program, that are positively impacting the health and well-being of people in our region.”

“Hunger is a year-round crisis in our communities, and so we need year-round help to ensure our neighbors have convenient and reliable access to nourishing food whenever they need it,” said George Matysik, Executive Director at Share Food Program. “We are so grateful for the continued commitment of Independence Blue Cross and their Blue Crew. Their corporate support and volunteer efforts are a big part of the reason we’re able to serve hundreds of thousands of individuals and families in the Greater Philadelphia region.”

Share Food Program is one of more than 100 nonprofit organizations that the IBX Blue Crew supports throughout the year.
