The Elmwood Park Zoo in Norristown turns 100 years old and plans to celebrate with the annual Wine Safari benefit.

This Friday, Aug. 2, the Elmwood Park Zoo hosts their annual Wine Safari, but this year it’s a big deal, writes Alicia Vitarelli for 6ABC.

The benefit will mark the 100th anniversary of when the zoo opened in 1924 with only a collection of white-tailed deer. It has since expanded to host a variety of animals.

“It’s a real gem to the community that we knew we could always be,” said Jennifer Conti, the zoo’s Development Director. “The money from the Wine Safari will keep that legacy growing.”

Elmwood Park Zoo will also debut its new Veterinary Hospital and Welcome Center at the event.

The Wine Safari is an adults-only benefit that runs from 6 PM — 9 PM. Several local wineries and distilleries will be stationed throughout the zoo including Hatboro’s Cyrenity Sips and Norristown’s Five Saints Distilling.

“This will be a very cool way to cheers to our 100 years,” Conti said.

Tickets to the benefit are $59 for general admission and $55 for members.
