Pecora started fixing bikes when he was ten years old to pay for an expensive mountain bike that he wanted. He had already honed his skills by watching YouTube videos.

To spread the word about his services, Pecora’s mom set up a Facebook page – Dom Fixes Bikes – for the young entrepreneur.

After a while, he had enough money to both purchase the bike he wanted and to surprise six other kids with new bikes for Christmas at the height of the pandemic.

After that, “I just continued to do it,” he said.

When he just started his business, Pecora was working from his home. The need for more room first prompted him to rent a one-car garage, before he finally opened his own storefront last September.

Thanks to his business and sponsorships and donations to his nonprofit, he managed to give away 121 bikes during the holiday season, surpassing his initial goal of 100 a year.
