Veteran of Sales and Business Development Sets New Standard for Growth at West Chester-Based MyOfficeOps

As neighbors and friends for more than a quarter-century, Steve Rickel and Mark Mehok have known each other for quite some time.

That personal relationship eventually paved a path for a professional one, with Mehok joining Rickel’s company, MyOfficeOps, in July 2023 as Senior Vice President of Sales and Business Development.

Founded in 2013 by Rickel and based in West Chester, MyOfficeOps provides accounting, bookkeeping, and business consulting services. Simply put, it functions as a lifeline for small and medium-sized businesses, helping them get a handle on their financial health and fueling their growth.

And growth is Mehok’s forte.

In fact, MyOfficeOps has enjoyed a 40 percent increase in topside revenue since he arrived last year.

“Mark ran a very successful medical device distributorship for many years, and when he divested of his company, he and I discussed going into business together, and that resulted in him joining MyOfficeOps,” said Rickel. “Prior to Mark, I could only grow the company in small increments since I also had to be part of the fulfillment team to our clients.”

After earning a bachelor’s degree in Sports Medicine from the University of Pittsburgh and a master’s degree in Physical Therapy from Widener University, Mehok began his career as a Physical Therapist in the 1990s. He then earned an MBA from Penn State and pivoted to orthopedic medical device sales, where he grew his distributorship over the course of the next 22 years. Throughout his career, Mehok has routinely served on the advisory boards of several different companies, assisting them with their sales, strategic planning, and profitability.

“Since he’s run a successful business of his own, Mark can talk the talk and walk the walk with prospects and clients,” said Rickel. “He’s a valuable member of our leadership team and heads our profitability and M&A initiatives.”

Through profitability consulting and strategies, MyOfficeOps helps clients develop sellable businesses for future exits. This forward-thinking service has been a game-changer, allowing clients to see beyond daily operations and plan for long-term success.

Another thing Mehok has emphasized at MyOfficeOps is the importance of marketing.

“Mark has introduced marketing and a way of thinking to our organization in a way that wasn’t there before,” said Rickel. “He’s shown us the benefits of storytelling.”

“We’ve been able to grow in no small part to me getting out and talking to business owners and telling the MyOfficeOps story,” Mehok said. “Our story really resonates with many business owners who may need a CFO for their company but simply can’t afford one. This is our value-add as a company because we not only provide the financial statements to our clients, we help educate them about what they mean and create Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and use those metrics, so they can make strategic business decisions.”

To help circulate the story of MyOfficeOps, the company partnered with one of its clients, American Community Journals, the parent company of VISTA, MONTCO, DELCO, BUCKSCO, and PHILADELPHIA Today. MyOfficeOps assists ACJ with its bookkeeping and provides valuable insight as it looks to expand and build off its record-breaking success in 2023. In turn, MyOfficeOps has leaned into ACJ’s unique content delivery engine for its affiliate partners’ brand storytelling efforts.
