Upper Dublin’s Gov. Josh Shapiro Not Confirming Whether He Is in Running for VP Nomination
Gov. Josh Shapiro, who lives in Upper Dublin and is being touted as the best candidate for the Vice President nomination by top Pennsylvania Democrats, would neither confirm nor deny he is in the running for the position in his first comments regarding the issue, write Gillian McGoldrick and Julia Terruso for The Philadelphia Inquirer.
Shapiro, a former attorney general and Montgomery County commissioner, addressed national media on Monday, after President Joe Biden said he would not run for reelection and endorsed his vice president Kamala Harris.
Shapiro said Harris will make the “deeply personal decision” of selecting the running mate she wants to campaign and govern with.
“She will make that decision when she is ready,” he said. “That decision should be made, really, free from any political pressure.”
Shapiro’s name is at the top of the lists of potential vice presidential nominees reportedly being considered by Harris. If chosen, Pennsylvania Democrats believe he could help defeat former President Donald Trump in the key battleground state.
