Montgomery County Native Is Member of Most Successful Led Zeppelin Tribute Band
Paul Hammond, a Montgomery County native, is a member of Get the Led Out, the most successful Led Zeppelin tribute band in the world, writes Victor Fiorillo for the Philadelphia Magazine.
Hammond, who stands in for Jimmy Page, is one of the two original members of the band.
Get the Led Out is rarely not on tour. The band is currently taking a break from a 50-city tour to play a three-night run at Collingswood’s Scottish Rite Auditorium. They will return to the area again this summer for shows at the Keswick in Glenside.
“We play 130 shows a year,” said 58-year-old Hammond.
Get the Led Out was formed in 2003. Hammond and Paul Sinclair, the band’s other original member, decided they would stand out by performing, note for note, the album versions of Led Zeppelin songs, including vocal and guitar overdubs and sound effects.
The result, said Hammond, is like you are listening to the album at home but it is being performed live.
“Nobody else was attempting it, and we were all virtuosos,” he said. “So it just took off.”
