Microsoft Alum, Montco Resident Bringing Anchored Tiny Homes Franchise to Region

Mario Mascioli, a Microsoft alum and former tech executive, is planning to open an Anchored Tiny Homes franchise like this one in the region.

Mario Mascioli, a Microsoft alum and former tech executive who lives in Montgomery County, plans to open an Anchored Tiny Homes franchise that will serve Chester County — the Philadelphia region’s priciest housing market — and neighboring Lancaster County, writes Ryan Mulligan for the Philadelphia Business Journal.

The homebuilder, who is based in Northern California, specializes in accessory dwelling units, developing small homes on existing residential properties.

The units range from about 240 square feet to around 1,000 square feet. The smaller homes cost from roughly $100,000 to over $250,000. Mascioli is currently finalizing rates for his local franchise but plans to keep them at or under those estimates.

Chester County is currently in need of affordable housing as the median home price hit almost $550,000 in May, the highest average in Greater Philadelphia by a wide margin. Mascioli believes tiny homes will represent a more attainable housing alternative in the area.

“I see a big opportunity in terms of really hitting this affordable housing crisis on the nose, so to speak, and obviously a great business opportunity to pursue this,” he said.
