Philadelphia Youth Orchestra to Conclude 2023-24 Season With Annual Doubleheader Festival Concerts
The Philadelphia Youth Orchestra Music Institute (PYOMI) has announced the Philadelphia Youth Orchestra’s 84th Annual Festival, which will be held at Verizon Hall of The Kimmel Center on Sunday, June 2 at 7 PM.
The program for the event features a dynamic selection and two soloists under the direction of Maestro Louis Scaglione. The concert will open with Humperdinck’s Prelude to Hansel and Gretel, followed by W.A. Mozart’s Sinfonia Concertante for Violin and Viola. The piece will showcase Philadelphia Orchestra violinist William Polk and violist Kerri Ryan, an alumna of the Philadelphia Youth Orchestra.
The grand finale of the evening will be Shostakovich’s powerful Symphony No. 10.
“We are thrilled to bring together such remarkable talent for this special evening,” said Maestro Scaglione. “Not only are we presenting a thrilling musical program, but we are also celebrating the educators who dedicate their lives to nurturing the next generation.”
Earlier that day, the Philadelphia Young Artists Orchestra’s (PYAO) 29th Annual Festival Concert will take place at the Perelman Theater of The Kimmel Center.
Some of the finest young talent in the region, who have been guided by the direction of Maestra Rosalind Erwin, will be performing. This includes Elliot Anderson, who also serves as the concertmaster of PYAO, for his violin skills.
PYOMI will also announce the winner of the 11th Annual Ovation Award, which honors outstanding music educators nationwide who have made significant contributions to their students and communities through music education.
