Philadelphia was ranked as among the most sinful cities in the United States, for a number of different factors, including the level of crime and number of adult establishments within the region's borders.

WalletHub recently conducted a study and ranked 180 U.S. cities for their level of sin, and Philadelphia found itself quite high on the list, writes Lauren Sakiyama for Mindfully American.

Philadelphia was ranked as the third most sinful city in the nation.

WalletHub used 37 key indicators to rank the cities’ sin levels, such as violent crimes per capita to the number of adult entertainment establishments within the city’s borders.

Each city was then scored based on seven categories:

  1. Anger & Hatred
  2. Jealousy
  3. Excesses & Vices
  4. Greed
  5. Lust
  6. Vanity
  7. Laziness

The higher the number, the more sinful the city.

Philadelphia had an index score of 56.83, with its most major sin being vanity.

The WalletHub study found that Philly had more online searches for “plastic surgery” than any other city studied.

Philly trailed only Las Vegas and Houston on the “most sinful list,” as those cities scored a total vice index of 63 and 57.21, respectively.

Rounding out the top five were Los Angeles and Atlanta, finishing with a total sin index of 55.12 and 55.11, respectively.
