Elizabeth Billies, a distinguished family law attorney and certified mediator, has been nominated as one of the “10 Best Family Law Attorneys for Pennsylvania” by the American Institute of Family Law Attorneys (AIOFLA).

This prestigious recognition underscores her dedication, expertise, and the high regard in which she is held by both her clients and peers.

Liz Billies is renowned for her comprehensive practice in all areas of family law. She skillfully prepares pre- and post-nuptial agreements, navigates no-fault and fault divorces, and adeptly handles equitable distribution, custody, and support matters.

Her approach is marked by a collaborative and cost-effective strategy, ensuring that her clients receive compassionate and detailed attention while resolving their issues expeditiously.

“I take this job and my clients seriously,” said Billies. “It’s nice to have an organization recognize it, particularly one focused on family law. It’s nice to think, ‘Yeah, I’m doing this right.’”

Before joining Dischell Bartle Dooley, Liz clerked for the Honorable Susan Devlin Scott, President Judge of Bucks County Court of Common Pleas and Administrative Judge of the Family Court. This invaluable experience honed her skills and deepened her understanding of the legal landscape, which she now leverages to advocate effectively for her clients.

Liz’s legal journey began at Villanova University School of Law, where she earned her J.D. in 2005. She distinguished herself as a staff writer for the Law Review.

Her professional credentials are extensive, with bar admissions in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, the U.S. District Court Eastern District of Pennsylvania, the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania, and the Supreme Court of New Jersey

In addition to her professional work, Liz is deeply committed to community service. She volunteers with the Montgomery County Advocacy Project, assisting children who are witnesses or victims of crime, and providing support in custody cases involving concerns of abuse. Liz also dedicates her time to Second Saturdays, a national divorce workshop for women going through the process, where she provides legal advice alongside a financial planner and therapist.

“It’s really important for lawyers to provide pro-bono legal services when they can,” Billies said.

Liz’s excellence has been recognized through numerous awards. She has been named a Pennsylvania Super Lawyer by Super Lawyers Magazine since 2020, and previously, a Pennsylvania Rising Star from 2010 to 2019.

This past year, Liz was named to the 2024 edition of The Best Lawyers in America® for family law. She also received the American Institute of Family Law Attorneys Under 40 Client Satisfaction Award from 2014 to 2019, and the National Academy of Family Law Attorneys Top Ten Under 40 from 2015 to 2019.

Her professional affiliations are extensive. She is an active member of the Pennsylvania Bar Association, Family Law Section, and the Montgomery County Bar Association. Liz has held various leadership positions, including Treasurer, President, and President Emeritus of the Doris Jonas Freed American Inn of Court.

Liz Billies offers sage advice to aspiring attorneys, emphasizing the importance of hands-on training and personal connections. She advocates for kindness and respect in all professional dealings, which has been a cornerstone of her success.

“Work hard and be kind to people,” Billies advised. “Being nice and kind to the other lawyers has served me well. It’s important to understand and appreciate the other side, while sticking up for yourself and your clients.”
