Dom Pecora, center, started his bike repair business at just 10 years old. Today, he’s turned it into a nonprofit that donates bikes to local kids.

When local Chester County teen Dom Pecora was 10 years old, he asked his mother for a brand-new YT Jeffsy, writes Karin Mallet for WFMZ 69 News.

The bike was a cool ride, but an expensive one too. Dom’s mother encouraged him to work for the bike he so desperately wanted. His mother asked him what he was good at, and Dom said he was good at fixing bikes.

From there, Dom Fixes Bikes was born. At 10 years old, Dom began fixing bikes in his garage. Although he earned the money to buy the YT Jeffsy in just six weeks, Dom decided to keep fixing. Dom found there were many people in need of bike repairs.

He saved the money he earned from his business and bought 6 bikes to give away at Christmastime that year. The next year, Dom gave away 19 bikes and the following year, he donated 42.

Last year, Dom Fixes Bikes became a nonprofit; launching a social media campaign called #100bikesayear. Dom was able to double that goal, giving away 228 bikes last year.

Today, Dom also operates a store on Lancaster Avenue in Malvern and is a distributor for Berg Bikes

Dom’s next goal is to raise more than $100,000 to open a local bike park.
