The Borough of Conshohocken is considering the nearly $5.1 million purchase of a former car dealership for a major transformation.

The Borough of Conshohocken is considering the purchase of a former car dealership to transform it into a unified facility for both a fire department and ambulance company, writes Kevin Tierney for More Than the Curve.

The idea for the $5.1 million purchase was discussed during the June 5th Borough Council meeting, following a presentation by Washington Fire Company No. 1 and Conshohocken Fire Company No. 2, the borough’s two fire companies, and Narberth Ambulance, a provider of ambulance services to the community.

The potential acquisition of the property along the 1100 block of Fayette Street is driven by the need to provide additional space for Conshohocken Fire Company No. 2 and the Narberth Ambulance.

The leadership of the first responder organizations said they have both world-class equipment and volunteers but they are in need of space at their current facilities to properly house the equipment while also providing bunk space, training space, and office space, as well as space to maintain their equipment in-house.

If the purchase goes through, the two organizations will sell their current facilities. Meanwhile, Washington Fire Company No. 1 would continue to own and operate its property.
