Here’s Your Guide to the Best Stargazing Spots in Montgomery County

In Montgomery County, Valley Forge National Historical Park is a prime spot for stargazing.

Trying to see the stars in a densely populated area like the Philadelphia area may seem nearly impossible with all the light pollution, but astronomers and other stargazing experts say that even in our area, you can enjoy the night sky.

Brendan Happe and his stepbrother Bill Green, founders of Philly Moon Men, said that astronomy is something everyone can enjoy with the right knowledge.

Philly Moon Men, which they founded in 2018, organizes sidewalk astronomy events along South Street.

The Franklin Institute’s chief astronomer, Derrick Pitts, also believes that stargazing is very accessible.

“You don’t have to have a big telescope. In fact, you can start right at the basics just by observing,” he said.

“The lowest level you can start at is just go outside and look up, and if you pick the right time to do that, there’s a whole host of things you can see without any optical aid.”

In Montgomery County, Valley Forge National Historical Park is a prime spot for stargazing. Although there is some light pollution in the eastern parts of the park, budding astronomers can find great views on the north end of the park at 1400 N. Outer Line Drive in King of Prussia, according to The National Park Service.
