A Shopping Trip for a Chester Nail Salon Led to RareFootage Sports
Two years ago, Shawn Rodgers and his wife, Egypt, were shopping at a Best Buy for a television to put in Egypt’s Chester nail studio. Instead, Egypt picked up a digital camera and snapped a picture of her husband.
“I was like, ‘Dang, this looks good,’ so we bought the camera,” Rodgers said. “And I’ve been shooting ever since.”
Rodgers went on to create RareFootage Sports, with a website and a YouTube channel, and he’s impacted high school players across the region, writes Josh Verlin for The Philadelphia Inquirer.
These days, he’s in the bleachers at games, shooting videos.
His videos feature the standout player from a game in 30- to 60-second clips.
“I realized I wanted to be a SportsCenter, the house of highlights for recruiting high school kids.”
Rodgers has played a little college basketball himself. He played briefly at East Stroudsburg, and ended up at the Division III Thomas College in Maine for the 2008-09 season.
Rodgers officially launched RareFootage in 2022 and has already created an established brand, known for his highlight tapes.
He’s hoping to build a national platform and keep RareFootage Sports going as long as he can.
