Pennsylvania Theatre Institute: Summer Theatre Camp at West Chester University Is Back for 7th Year
Since 2018, West Chester University has welcomed Philadelphia-area students to campus to explore all things theatre-related in a fun and supportive environment. The Pennsylvania Theatre Institute, whose “Young Company” camps serve up two two-week sessions each summer for students ages 8-14, has become one of WCU’s finest fixtures.
The Pennsylvania Theatre Institute has educated and entertained hundreds of Philadelphia-area theatre students. Utilizing WCU’s state-of-the-art facilities, the camp is taught by expert faculty, all of whom are professionals in the field. Students benefit from a packed day designed to boost creativity and spark imagination.
Campers take morning classes in acting, voice, dance, improvisation, and theatrical design. In the afternoons, they build on those skills to create a fully realized showcase performance that is open to the public on the last day of camp.
Managing Director Katherine Fritz said, “Our Young Company camps serve a wide range of student actors. Some are there because they love performing, singing, and dancing, but others are there to have fun and make friends while learning theatre skills. There is room for everyone, and it is our priority to foster a safe and supportive environment for all campers to grow, play, learn, and thrive. We have campers who come back year after year and parents who rave about the program.”
Spots are available for the two-week session running Jul. 8-19.
