Montgomery County and its project partners engineering firm NV5 and nonprofit ACLAMO are working to transform two trailheads in Norristown, writes Emily Neil for the WHYY.

The need to increase access to the county’s trails was emphasized in a 2020 study on trail access, diversity, and awareness. The sites that were highlighted in the study included the Norristown portion of the Schuylkill River Trail.

To deal with the issue, Montgomery County officials decided to redesign the two trailheads in Norristown, at Haws Avenue and Chain Street.

ACLAMO, which works with Latino communities in the area, has been soliciting feedback and ideas for the trailheads’ redesign from community members.

“We’re including not only the Latino voice but everybody’s voices,” said Nelly Jimenez-Arevalo, Executive Director of ACLAMO. “So we have to open it to everybody because we want to make sure that the community as a whole can have the chance to give us feedback.”

NV5 and ACLAMO will host family-friendly events in late spring and summer to showcase ideas received through feedback and incorporate additional recommendations.

The design process is expected to wrap up by the end of this year.
