Lower Merion officials voted against a swimming pool fee increase for this summer, writes Richard Ilgenfritz for Main Line Media News.
The fee for non-residents may go up though.
Originally the township recommended a 4.25 percent increase in membership fees for residents and a 6.5 percent increase for non-residents at the Belmont Hills Pool.
For the Ardmore Avenue Pool, the recommendation was for a 4 percent hike in fees for non-residents, but no increase for residents.
At a recent finance meeting, however, Commissioner Ray Courtney proposed no increase for residents, and the motion passed by a vote of 10 to four.
Township policy states that pool fees are set to recover 100 percent of the operating and debt service costs for the Belmont Hills Pool. The policy for the Ardmore Avenue Pool is for the fees to recover 100 percent of the debt service, but not Eric Traube operating costs.
This year though like many years in the past, township staff did not follow the policy, said Eric Traub, director of finance for Lower Merion.
Final approval of the amended pool fees will take place at the next board meeting.
