An aspiring sports talk radio host, a Plymouth Meeting teen is already taking the Philadelphia sports world by storm with his podcast and his personal story of resiliency, writes Dave Uram for KYW Newsradio.

When 16-year-old Kevin Flannery who lives in Plymouth Meeting with his family was born, he had to undergo several surgeries to correct life-threatening birth defects. One of those surgeries damaged his vocal cords.

He couldn’t make any sounds until he was three months old. Now his father, Marty Flannery, said he has the “gift of gab.”

Flannery is taking that determination and grit that saw him through so many challenges at a young age and channeling it into his passion for Philadelphia sports.

Flannery first became a big Philly sports fan when Bryce Harper signed with the Phillies in 2019 and he noticed that everyone around him was so passionate about sports.

At the time, he said to himself, “I need to actually start to learn about these sports teams and not be sitting here not understanding what pain goes on or what people feel joy about every night or every week.”

Now he has his own podcast “What Are We Doing?” Phillies postgame show where he gives his thoughts on the game or other big sports news.
