ETHOS Treatment Launches Eating Disorder Program to Help Adults Cultivate Healthier Relationships with Food
ETHOS Treatment LLC — which helps adults and teens with mental health issues and substance use disorders through a proven combination of individual counseling and small-group and family therapy — has launched an eating disorder program to help patients cultivate healthy relationships with themselves, their food choices, and their body image.
ETHOS treats diagnoses that include anorexia, bulimia binge eating disorder, other specified feeding or eating disorders (OSFED), and avoidant restrictive food intake disorder (ARFID).
“We need more community resources like this to help individuals who are suffering,” said ETHOS co-founder and Chief Clinical Officer A. Michael Blanche. “At ETHOS, our approach to group therapy incorporates techniques that meet each person where they are in their recovery process, motivating individuals to advocate for themselves while knowing they are not alone.”
ETHOS’s program takes a Health at Every Size (HAES) approach, adhering to the idea that health is not solely determined by one’s weight or size. Through facilitated discussions and therapeutic interventions, participants explore nutrition education, emotional regulation, identification and modification of unhealthy thinking patterns, mindfulness practices, distress tolerance, and the development of relapse prevention plans.
Additionally, the program includes a registered dietitian who provides personalized nutrition guidance, as well as a nurse practitioner who provides psychiatric support to address the importance of mental health in the recovery process.
The eating disorder program is led by Casey Carle, an expert in addressing eating disorders, along with mental health and substance abuse concerns.
“Our group sessions offer a compassionate, supportive community where people find hope that recovery is possible,” said Carle. “And our interdisciplinary, comprehensive approach to the work — such as including dieticians, nurse practitioners, and primary care physicians in discussions — is a critical component of the recovery process as patients journey toward a healthier relationship with food.”
The ETHOS-proven model of individual counseling and small-group and family therapy for the treatment of mental health and substance abuse issues maximizes the potential for long-term, sustainable recovery. ETHOS also helps people with clinical depression, bipolar disorder, generalized anxiety disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder, panic disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder, and mood regulation issues.
“Individuals do not need to have a previous diagnosis or treatment history to seek help,” said Carle, “and they can come to us for assessment with ETHOS if they think they may need support.”
