A Bucks County nonprofit wants to make driving safer for everyone and now organizers of a major local beer event are teaming up to help them spread the word.

The Bucks County Community Traffic Safety program is part of TMA Bucks and is focused on reducing the number of highway deaths in Bucks County through a variety of safe driving initiatives including addressing aggressive driving, driving under the influence and distracted driving that contribute to higher crash rates.

They were recently connected with the event team of the Bucks Beer Bash to address the audience of festival attendees, local breweries, wineries and distilleries attending the March 9 event at The Fuge in Warminster on the critical importance of responsible driving and the impacts of driving under the influence.

Traffic Community Safety Program Manager Carly Wible explains while it may seem partnering with a beer festival is counterintuitive, it actually helps them get their message across where it can truly have an impact.

“TMA Bucks is participating with this event to remind everyone who plans to attend that you should absolutely never drive drunk or impaired,” explained TMA Bucks Community Traffic Safety Program Manager Carly Wible.

“We’ll have a presence at the event to reinforce that message and we’ll also be providing the participating breweries and other vendors special Don’t drink and drive coasters to serve as an important reminder to their patrons to never drive drunk. We want people to understand that buzzed driving is drunk driving. Even a small amount of alcohol can affect a person quickly. Put safety first and plan ahead for a sober ride before going to the event. This simple decision could save a life, including yours.”

In fact, when the Bucks Beer Bash was being organized, Fuge event center owner and Bash event host Sam Cravero wanted to do something different than the typical drink-all-you-can for your admission fee models which truly lead to participants making poor decisions.

So instead, he structured the festival to have a lower admission fee and use drink tokens so individuals can not only curate their own experience but also be responsible about how they consume.

Cravero adds, “We want our Bash attendees to plan ahead to have a fun, enjoyable and safe experience. We’re supporting that in several ways and promoting it as a very positive thing.”

To Cravero’s point, the event also offers a special low Designated Driver admission, encourages and supports rideshare options for attendees with special drop off and pick up areas and, with the help of the Community Traffic Safety Program and local government involvement, takes it even one step further.

Festival goers who, even with good intentions, find themselves unable to drive can get complimentary rideshares home thanks the partnership of the Community Traffic Safety Program, the Bash event team and the generous contributions of Senator Farry and Representative Munroe who both support TMA Bucks and their program.
