The Jenkintown Food Cupboard set many records in 2023 and is now looking to improve on its already stellar results this year by taking the first steps in purchasing a warehouse in Glenside, writes Ryan Genova for Glenside Local.

Last year, the Jenkintown Food Cupboard made more than 12,000 grocery visits to families in Montgomery County. This fed over 36,000 individuals, distributed almost half a million pounds of food through its full-choice pantry, and shared more than 60,000 pounds of additional food through food banking distributions with over 20 local pantries.

“Those are all awesome things and we set some new records,” said the Cupboard’s Executive Director Nickelino “Lino” Ellis.

Ellis believes that the Cupboard can continue to build on the momentum this year through its strategic plan that includes the purchase of a warehouse in Glenside or Jenkintown.

“We’re looking to buy a warehouse in town so that we don’t have to make the trip to Lansdale,” he said. “It’s a three-year plan to raise $500,000 to purchase.”
