City and State PA’s 2023 Fifty Over 50 list is out and some of Pennsylvania’s most influential leaders over the age of 50 have earned top ranking, including Montgomery County Community College president Victoria Bastecki-Perez.

Bastecki-Perez’s commitment for academic access and inclusion stems from her own background, writes Hilary Danailova for City and State PA.

She earned an education degree from Edinboro University of Pennsylvania and was the first in her family to graduate from college.

She also received master’s and doctoral degrees from the University of Pittsburgh.

As president of MCCC, she has already had an impact on not only the college community but the surrounding neighborhoods as well.

Her family established the Bastecki-Perez Scholarship Fund through the Montgomery County Community College Foundation. The scholarship fund supports first-generation students.

Under her leadership, MCCC was awarded the national Achieving the Dream’s Leader College of Distinction designation for improving students’ outcomes and reducing equity gaps.

Bastecki-Perez also serves on the boards for MontcoWorks, the Collegiate Consortium for Workforce and Economic Development, and the Pennsylvania Commission for Community Colleges.
