Newtown Borough’s long-awaited Steeple View Project is awaiting final approval, writes Jeff Werner for The Patch.

If approved, it would be Newtown’s largest redevelopment project.

The plan includes the revitalization of nine acres extended from Centre Avenue to South State Street to create a mixed-use neighborhood, with four residential structures and three mixed-use retail, restaurant, and residential buildings.

The project proposes an abundance of public amenities, including a trail along Newtown Creek, a pedestrian bridge linking the borough to Carl Sedia Park, a reconstructed barn on the former Stockburger property, and a public piazza with seating and a water element.

The council has proposed nixing a second fireplace to make room for more outdoor seating, and also bringing the revitalized barn structure to a more visible location.
