The plan will include an analysis of current operations and look at forecasts for ridership and revenue.

As part of its efforts to restore passenger rail service from Reading to Philadelphia with a stop in Pottstown, the Schuylkill River Passenger Rail Authority is hiring a firm to develop a service plan, writes Karen Shuey for the Reading Eagle.

The plan will include an analysis of current operations and a look at forecasts for ridership and revenue.

Through the federal Corridor Identification and Development Program, the authority will receive $500,000 to develop the service plan.

As part of the federal program, the authority can also begin negotiations with Amtrak and Norfolk Southern to use their existing tracks for passenger rail service.

AECOM, an international infrastructure consulting firm, is expected to win the contract to develop the service plan.
