Comcast’s MachineQ, in Partnership With Spotta, Launches Service To Help Hoteliers Catch Bed Bugs Before They Bite

MachineQ is partnership up with Spotta to help hoteliers detect bed bugs before they spread.

MachineQ, Comcast’s IoT unit, has launched a new service that will help hoteliers detect bed bugs before they spread, writes Carl Weinschenk for Telecompetitor.

The company is working with Spotta, one of the leading companies that specializes in bed bug detection, for this endeavor.

The service features Spotta’s Bed Pod sensors, which are installed under mattresses. 

The traps exude odorless pheromones that lure the bugs in, and once detected, Spotta’s artificial intelligence system analyzes and validates that a bed bug is actually in the trap.

Once confirmed, MachineQ’s cloud network then sends an image along with the time and location to hotel employees, who can then proactively react. 

“Our clients can start with bed bug monitoring and add other use cases to help manage risk, such as water leak detection and staff duress, using the same network infrastructure for a low total cost of ownership and fast deployment,” said Bryan Witkowski, head of product and strategy at MachineQ.

By ensuring hoteliers can detect bed bugs quicker, it reduces the threat of diminishing the hotel’s brand, and keeps guests safer. 

The MachineQ and Spotta partnership is an example of what is possible when the IoT, cloud, and both specialized- and industry-specific capabilities are combined.
