Jefferson Abington Re-Designated As Baby-Friendly
Baby-Friendly USA, an accrediting body for the Baby-Friendly Hospital Initiative, recently re-designated Jefferson Abington as a Baby-Friendly hospital, writes Ryan Genova for Glenside Local.
The BFHI assists in ensuring that families with new additions have the resources to successfully initiate and continue breastfeeding. Hospitals that receive the Baby-Friendly designation have to go through a rigorous review process and site visits to have their facilities evaluated for following the highest standards of care for breastfeeding families.
“It is an honor to receive re-designation as a Baby-Friendly hospital,” said Brian Sweeney, RN, MBA, FACHE, president, Jefferson Health – North Region. “I am very proud that our talented physicians, midwives, nurses, and support staff who provide prenatal, maternity, and postpartum care have been recognized with this important designation.”
He added that the prestigious recognition “reflects our commitment to providing high-quality care and cultivating a supportive environment for breastfeeding families and for those who cannot or decide not to breastfeed.”
Jefferson Abington offers education and breastfeeding support services. It also has specially trained international board-certified lactation consultants, counselors, and nurses who help families achieve their breastfeeding and newborn feeding goals.
Jefferson Abington is the only Montgomery County hospital to earn this recognition.
