Frank Skokoski, a blogger and photographer in Hazle Township, documented his recent trip to The John James Audubon Center in Audubon while staying in King of Prussia.

During a visit just after sunrise on a cold November morning, he explored the old estate and birding and nature sanctuary.

He wrote, “The remaining leaves on the oak trees shone. There was a thick frost on the ground.”

He followed the trails near the Center meeting some curious deer and birds along the way.

He stopped to enjoy the beauty of the Perkiomen Creek and headed for the Audubon Loop Trail where he saw the ruins of an old smokestack.

While meandering around, he met hooded mergansers swimming on the creek, a hairy woodpecker, and some Carolina wrens singing “in the weak November morning sun”.

He also encountered a white-tailed hawk who just wanted to hang out with him for a while.

Skokoski hopes to come back again and often.

“I know this place will be magical in the Spring,” he wrote.
