Around 49.13 million people will travel by car and 4.69 million will get to their destination by plane. Meanwhile, another 1.55 million will use buses, trains, and cruise ships.

If you are planning to travel next week prepare for heavy traffic, as it is expected to be the most congested Thanksgiving since 2019, writes Kristin Hunt for the PhillyVoice.

According to AAA, around 55.4 million people will travel to their holiday dinners this year using planes, trains, and automobiles in the period between Wednesday, November 22, and Sunday, November 26.

That would put this year close to the levels of Thanksgiving in 2019 when almost 56 million people journeyed home.

Around 49.13 million people will travel by car and 4.69 million will get to their destination by plane. Meanwhile, another 1.55 million will use buses, trains, and cruise ships.

It is expected that the worst traffic will happen on the Wednesday before the holiday.

According to INRIX, a company that analyzes road travel, the busiest holiday traveling hours will be between 2:00 and 6:00 p.m. Between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. on Thanksgiving, 12 and 4 p.m. on Friday, and 3 and 5 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday are also rush periods that should be avoided.
