Sophie Fontecchio, a Downingtown STEM Academy student, is a longtime volunteer who started her own nonprofit to help those who need it the most, writes Jarmila Gorman for Points of Light

The teen started volunteering as a kid at an animal rescue. But after losing a close friend to suicide and after the pandemic happened, she decided she wanted to help on a bigger scale.

She founded Let’s Bake the World a Better Place when she was 15. The nonprofit sells home-baked goods to raise money for a variety of local, national, and international organizations.

“The organization is founded on three pillars: philanthropy, which is donating funds from our bake sales; advocacy for mental health awareness and the different causes we support through the bake sales; and action in the area of mental health,” said Fontecchio.

Since its establishment, the organization has already raised over $17,000 through the sale of cinnamon rolls, scones, cupcakes, and other baked goods.

While her main focus in the organization is baking, the teen is also working on “ involving youth and creating the next generation of changemakers.”
