Montgomery County Community College (MCCC) started construction at its Pottstown Campus to convert a parking lot into a green space.

The near one-acre parking area at the college’s North Hall building will be transformed into a grass-covered space with a new retaining wall, site lighting, and drainage along the Manatawny Creek.

Construction started Oct. 24 to transform the space and it is tentatively expected to be completed by May 2024.

During construction, students and the community will continue to have access to the underpass that leads from the North Hall building to MCCC’s South Hall building at 101 College Drive.

The addition of the green space is one of several projects MCCC has done in recent years at the campus as part of its ongoing investment in the Pottstown community.

In August 2022, MCCC opened the Challenger Learning Center at 140 College Drive. This hands-on, immersive STEM experience provides space-themed missions for students in grades 5-8 and is the first of its kind in Pennsylvania.

In December 2022, Montgomery County Community College (MCCC) unveiled its Wellness Center in North Hall, boasting comprehensive resources such as a food pantry, counseling, and a sensory room to bolster student success.

MCCC didn’t stop there. April 2023 marked the rejuvenation of South Hall’s first floor. This 25-year-old space at 101 College Drive was transformed to centralize student services, featuring a Science on a Sphere display, an esports room, fitness amenities, a modern library, and support spaces.

Additionally, MCCC’s Blue Bell Campus is repurposing its old bookstore into a cutting-edge Hospitality Institute. Set to open in Fall 2024, it will host culinary educational spaces, including a community restaurant and specialized labs.

The campus also celebrates its refurbished Science Center and theater, now a hub for science and cultural engagement as part of the Montco Cultural Center. These renovations stem from MCCC’s decade-long Facilities Master Plan, reflecting its commitment to student-centered growth.
