Italian Cooking Is in the Blood of the Burke Family, Owners of Glenside’s Trevi BYOB

Trevi BYOB in Glenside is a true family affair, writes Ryan Genova for Glenside Local.

Gina Burke and her husband Joe have been in the restaurant business since they learned to make pizza in New York City in the early 1980s as young adults.

In 1984 they opened their first restaurant and since then they have also owned a Center City café and a catering company.

For the past 12 years though, the Burkes have been focused on a special family venture with their son Joe, Jr.: Trevi BYOB in Glenside.

The Italian BYOB opened in April 2011 and for the past six years, Joe Jr. has served as Trevi’s executive chef.

“My son grew up in the kitchen alongside his father and has the same passion as Joe, Sr. With his skillsets and our family recipes we were able to open up Trevi,” Gina Burke said.

The family often takes trips to Italy for fresh inspiration for the menu. Trevi’s gnocchi, poppers, and some of their wine selections came from their trips.

The Burkes also have their own boutique winery, which first started out as a hobby. Although they offer some of their limited wine selections at Trevi, Burke says the restaurant will always be BYOB.
