It’s the holiday season — a time for togetherness and celebration. For many of us, it’s a season of giving. Unfortunately, the gift-giving process also brings opportunities for scammers to enrich themselves.

AARP Pennsylvania’s goal isn’t to take the joy out the holiday season or take the fun out of gift-giving; rather, it’s to help you be aware, so you can protect yourself and your loved ones. That’s why AARP Pennsylvania recently hosted a Tele-Town Hall.

The Tele-Town Hall was hosted by Mary Bach, Volunteer Chair of the Pennsylvania Consumer Issues Task Force. Special guests included Sarah Frasch, Director of the Bureau of Consumer Protection with the Pennsylvania Office of Attorney General, and Lieutenant Adam Reed, Director of Communications with the Pennsylvania State Police.

Topics included recognizing the red flags of holiday scams, understanding the types of deceptions commonly perpetrated during the holidays, and learning about official resources available for assistance and reporting.
