The Magic of Numbers: Harriton High School Senior Makes Math Fun Again

By

Math skills are necessary in life, but how many of us have struggled through complex word problems and equations in school?

Harriton High School senior Matthew Moskow is hoping to make math fun again for students in the Lower Merion School District, writes Alicia Vitarelli for 6abc.

Moskow is the founder and president of Main Line Math Project, a free math tutoring service for students from kindergarten through 12th grade.

“You can see the kids learn to love math through watching other kids that they look up to, which is nice, he said.

Moskow has built a roster of high school seniors who offer free tutoring at the Ludington Library in Bryn Mawr every Sunday.

It is a win-win-win situation for students needing a tutor, their parents, and the tutors themselves, he explained.

Tutoring services have become so expensive at the same time the need for those services has grown. This way families have access to math help they might not otherwise be able to afford, and the tutors are able to earn community service credits.

And the best part is that the tutors make learning exciting for their students by playing games and doing dances. One tutor even did 70 jumping jacks when a kid got a math problem right.
