On Saturday, Nov. 4, the Immaculata Symphony will perform their fall concert, “Magical Stories.” The concert begins at 7:30 PM in Immaculata’s Alumnae Hall. The Immaculata Symphony is a university-community organization, with a long and outstanding tradition that goes back to the university’s founding in 1920.

The Immaculata Symphony will perform a concert full of magical musical melodies, including Mozart’s whimsical overture from The Magic Flute and visions of broomsticks coming to life in Paul Dukas’ enchanting orchestral scherzo, The Sorcerer’s Apprentice.

Then the enticing Ritual Fire Dance appears in selections from Manuel de Falla’s ballet, El Amor Brujo. The concert concludes with Johan de Meij’s first symphony, The Lord of the Rings, based on the trilogy by J.R.R. Tolkien that has fascinated millions of readers since its publication in 1955.

Joseph Gehring, music director, is chair of the Immaculata University Music Department and director of ensembles. He is also the conductor of the West Chester Band and Chesco Pops Orchestra and is a frequent guest conductor of various honor/festival bands and orchestras throughout Pennsylvania and Delaware.

General admission to the fall concert is $15 and $11 for senior citizens. Tickets are available on the night of the event and online.
