Kids christened the new inclusive Doylestown playground even before the ribbon cutting was complete, writes Jeff Werner for Patch.

The children climbed up ladders, crawled through secret passageways, scaled giant boulders, and made their way inside a child-size replica of Fonthill Castle.

Doylestown Borough officially opened its newest playground on Oct. 16, describing it “as an investment in our children’s future.”

Helping make the playground a reality was General Recreation Inc. of Newtown Square, a supplier and consultant for commercial playground equipment and other recreational products.

The Doylestown-centric playground incorporates a kid-sized Fontnill Castle and Mercer Tile Works into the design.

The tot lot playground is the second phase in the redevelopment of a former PennDOT maintenance building and storage yard at Broad and Doyle Streets.

“This (new tot lot) is a wonderful space for our kids, and it is a capstone to the exceptional work that has been done. We are very lucky for the unrelenting effort of our borough officials in our community to make this happen,” said State Rep. Tim Brennan of the redevelopment project.
