The USA Today recently profiled Children’s Book World in Haverford on what keeps the bookstore connected to its local community.

Here is an excerpt from the interview.

On what makes the bookstore unique, Children’s Book World said, that “its founder Hannah Schwartz wanted a store that was ‘big enough to serve you, small enough to know you.’ Her daughter Heather continues to apply this philosophy by making every child feel welcome and comfortable in our store.”

The store has a small stage for author meet and greets and storybook characters. It is also the perfect spot to dig into a book.

A popular book that keeps flying off their shelves is “Gooseberry Park” by Cynthia Ryan. The adventure story draws in both children and adults.

A book they feel deserves more attention is “Frankie & Bug” by Gayle Forman. The novel is for middle-grade students and in it the two main characters track down a serial killer in California during the summer of 1987 while encountering homophobia for the first time.

Children’s Book World said that despite the ups and downs the characters face, it is essentially a story of hope.
