Local officials say there have been several reported black bear sightings in various Montgomery County townships including Whitpain and East Norriton this week. Officials are asking residents to call 911 if they see the bear and report the sighting to authorities.

Local officials say there have been several reported black bear sightings in various Montgomery County locations throughout the week, according to a staff report from FOX 29.

The most recent report came from Whitpain Township on Wednesday night.

Local police confirmed a bear sighting by the Pennsylvania Game Commission in Worcester Township and East Norriton Township. The bear then moved towards the area of Hoover Road and Perri Place, in Whitpain Township. That is where it was seen on Wednesday night.

Plymouth Meeting police alerted the public on Thursday to be aware of a black bear that has been spotted in the Hickory Road, Walton Road, Township Line Road, and Narcissa Road areas. It was noted that police and the Pennsylvania Game Commission were on location and that residents should use caution.

Pennsylvania Game Commission officials said that it is typical for bears to move around the region during autumn prior to hibernation. Bear traps have been placed in the areas where the animal has already been spotted.

The officials are asking residents to call 911 if they see the bear and report the sighting to authorities. Nobody should approach a bear for any reason.
