Called “Neighborhood Mom” by all, Norristown crossing guard Darlene Stevens is recognized for her devotion to the kids in the community, writes Justin Heinze for Patch.
Patch is partnering with T-Mobile to recognize community leaders by accepting nominations for these often-unsung heroes from Patch readers.
Melissa Kleinert, a Norristown reader, has nominated Stevens for her dedication to the neighborhood for more than 30 years.
Kleinert wrote, “Mrs. Stevens is a crossing guard. She was my crossing guard as a child and is now crossing the next generation. She not only keeps us all safe, she is always there with open arms to offer a hug or encouraging words.”
She added, “She has been our neighborhood angel for so many years and we all love her a lot. She has been honored before by our township for her outstanding work and dedication, but she deserves to be recognized on a larger platform.”
