A group of preservationists and locals are hoping to save the Hood Mansion in Limerick, which is on the 117.9-acre property of a proposed warehouse development, near the Philadelphia Outlet Center, writes Holly Herman for the Patch

The Historical Society of Limerick asked township supervisors earlier this week to find a way to protect the 1834 structure built by John M. Hood, an Irish immigrant for his large family of 15.

The mansion is on the property owned by CB Limerick, the developer that proposed the construction of the Limerick Commerce Center. The development envisions four warehouses on the property.

The township supervisors stated they would ask the township lawyer to add a request to the proposed ordinance for CB Limerick to consider saving the Hood Mansion. If that was not possible, the supervisors asked to allow citizens to collect historical items from the mansion.

It is still unknown what the developer’s plans for the historic building are.

The development proposal also calls for 30,000 square feet of retail space and parking, as well as a private road connecting West Lightcap Road to Sanatoga Road.
