An East Greenville Farm Is All About the Tinned Fish
Rainbow Tomatoes Garden in East Greenville is home to the world’s largest selection of tinned fish, writes Ezra Erik for Philadelphia Magazine.
Dan Waber, who owns the farm with his wife, Jenny Hill, and her daughter, Helen Kaucher, is an expert on tinned fish.
At the farm, they offer an extensive variety of tinned seafood, including sardines, anchovies, tuna, oysters and squid.
And of course, tomatoes.
It all started when Weber was looking to find other goods that go well with tomatoes like balsamic vinegar and olive oil.
“I thought, I don’t know if anybody’s going to buy tinned fish from a tomato stand, but let’s try it,” he said, adding that they sold out on the first day. “Nobody even looked at the prices.”
