Roberto Palmon (left) and partner Jeffrey Catlett have spent years building an Asian-inspired garden.

Robert Palmon and his partner, Jeffrey Catlett, have created their own little paradise in their Norristown garden, writes Sally A. Downey for The Philadelphia Inquirer.

The men met at Kurt’s Bar in Philadelphia in the 1980s. Together they carved out the perfect idyllic spot right in their own backyard.

Palmon is originally from the Philippines and wanted a little taste of home, so they added a lot of Asian-inspired touches such as lush ferns and hostas, trailing vines, colorful blooms, water fountains, a pond and even a meditation area.

Catlett said that Palmon is the one with the green thumb and the imagination. He learned how to garden by a lot of trial and error.

“I just supply the brawn,” Catlett said.
