High school students from across the Philadelphia area participated in this year’s Philadelphia Catholic Scholars Program at St. Charles Borromeo Seminary in Wynnewood, writes the staff at CatholicPhilly.

An annual summer event, this year’s program took place July 5-14 and included eight high school junior and senior-aged men.

The students participated in daily seminar classes and lectures. This year’s theme was Faith & Reason. The students explored the role of both faith and reason in the pursuit of truth, by reading and discussing works by Aristotle, Plato, Boethius, Aquinas, Chesterton, and Pope St. John Paul II.

Luke Patton, a student from Harriton High School in Rosemont, said, “Aquinas’…rational approach to understanding the existence of God offers us valuable insights into the intersection of faith and reason, inviting us to contemplate the divine and the world around us.”

The students also attended daily Mass and participated in recreational activities like volleyball, basketball, and trips into the City.

All the students who complete all the coursework earn three college credits in humanities.
