Hatboro-based Pretzel Pete Releases Innovative Topping for Ice Cream and More
Hatboro-based Pretzel Pete has a groundbreaking new product that draws retailers’ and manufacturers’ offers. Through a grinding and sifting process of Philly’s favorite snack, owner Karl Brown has developed a new seasoning to top off ice cream or yogurt, writes Gary Stern for Forbes.
Topzels made its debut at the Fancy Food Show at the Javits Center in New York City. Its goal is to sell to independent and online retailers, bulk sales, and food services. Two upcoming flavors for Topzels will be cinnamon sugar and salted caramel.
The innovation was eyed by an ice cream company that owns over 250 stores. The company reached out to Pretzel Pete’s at the convention to see if they could offer the special seasoning along with their products.
For now, Karl Brown says he’s focused on marketing and building the new product’s social media presence. The Hatboro based pretzel company competes against larger pretzel giants through using locally sourced wheat and other non-artificial ingredients.
Most of Pretzel Pete’s success stems from sales overseas, which includes 50 percent of its revenue. However, Brown’s impetus to expand his company’s presence isn’t driven by money.
“It’s not a question of money. It’s more about institutional fit and philosophies,” he says.
